Prince William and Princess Kate’s shock ‘olive branch’ to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Prince Harry once described Princess Kate as “the sister I’ve never had and always wanted”,
despite this previous comment the frosty relationship between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the Prince and Princess of Wales doesn’t seem to be warming up anytime soon.
Since leaving the Firm in 2020, the Sussexes have publicly criticized William and Kate multiple times, with Prince Harry’s memoir “Spare” set to include many negative remarks about his brother and sister-in-law.
However, despite their ongoing feud, a new Royal book has revealed that Kate and William extended an olive branch to Harry and Meghan following a poignant evening at Buckingham Palace.
The gesture reportedly took place in the days following the late Queen Queen Elizabeth II’s death, when all members of the Royal Family gathered at the palace awaiting the former monarch’s coffin.
Before the arrival of the coffin an informal dinner brought together the feuding couples and it was something “the late Queen would have approved” of.
According to the new biography Charles II. New King. New Court. The Inside Story by author Robert Hardman, William and Kate “suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should attach their car to their police escort for the journey back to Windsor”.
The author wrote: “Inside the palace, all members of the Royal Family were there to welcome the Queen back to royal headquarters for the last time, followed by an informal supper.
“Afterwards, the Prince and Princess of Wales suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should attach their car to their police escort for the journey back to Windsor since they were all going the same way.
“It was only a small gesture (they would not be sharing a car) and nowhere near any sort of reconciliation. However, the late Queen would have approved.”
During the engagements that followed the late monarch’s death in September 2022, Harry and Meghan reportedly felt like the Royal Family “mistreated” them.
Columnist Richard Johnson wrote in New York Daily News: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s friends in London are whispering that the former royals have been complaining they were snubbed and mistreated at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
“They both whined that the family wasn’t as welcoming as they should have been.”
