Ruth Langsford has told fans that she’s going to be comforting her dog Maggie following a procedure this week.
The presenter, 64, took to Instagram on Thursday to share that her dog Maggie, 14, had been to the vet in the morning.
Ruth told her followers that the canine’s appointment at the clinic had been to remove a “little wart” under sedation.
Footage included in the post showed Maggie being reunited with Ruth after the procedure. The four-legged companion was seen sporting a shaved area on her back and some stitches.
Ruth was heard saying to her: “Hello darling! Oh, look at you. Hello! Did you think I’d left you here forever?”
A subsequent clip in the video, shared with her one million followers on the platform, showed Maggie eating from a bowl, seemingly once they had got back home.
Ruth was seen stroking her head whilst on a sofa together with another.
Alongside the clips, Ruth wrote in the caption: “Maggie had a little wart removed this morning under sedation so she’s feeling a bit sorry for herself this afternoon! Lots of TLC from Mummy required.” She added: “Thank you [St George’s Veterinary Centre] for looking after our precious girl.”
The post now has more than 2,000 likes and fans took to the comments section to express well wishes as Maggie recovers. One person wrote: “Poor Maggie. Get well soon.” Another follower said: “Bless her. Get well soon Maggie.” A third person reacted: “Wishing her a speedy recovery.”
Someone else responded to the post: “Feel better soon lovely Maggie.” One follower commented: “She’ll be glad to be home. Hope she’s ok.” Another person said: “Sending big hugs to Maggie. I hope she gets better soon.”
Ruth has spoken about rescue dog Maggie over the years and has been known to post about her on social media. Maggie has even appeared on This Morning, with her having featured on the show when Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes, whom she’s now separated from, were hosting
Ruth became emotional whilst discussing her companion during an episode on Loose Women that aired last year. Ruth was tearful whilst talking about the prospect of losing Maggie in a segment on the ITV show. It came in response to a scene on Coronation Street in which Evelyn Plummer (played by Maureen Lipman) said goodbye to her greyhound Cerberus, who was put to sleep in a storyline.
After a clip from the scene was shown, Ruth said: “I can’t bear it.” She later commented: “You know that, hopefully, in the grand scheme of things, you know that that pet is going to go before you and that’s a heartbreaking thing.”
Ruth went on to tearfully mention her own dog to her colleagues on the panel. She said: “I’m looking at Maggie who’s a bit grey now and she’s 13-ish, because she’s a rescue dog, and so watching that was like … that is gonna happen.”
It was years prior, back in 2016, that Maggie joined Ruth and Eamonn on This Morning. Ahead of her being brought into the studio, Ruth told viewers: “If we were to split, Eamonn and I, who would Maggie choose?” Ruth ended up declaring that it was “equal,” though Eamonn noted he was approached first.
Ruth and Eamonn have since announced that they have separated, with the news shared in May. A joint statement was issued by the former couple. The statement read: “[Ruth] and [Eamonn] have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
