Offset has officially filed for joint legal custody of his three children with Cardi B as their divorce
proceedings continue to unfold. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the rapper—whose real name is Kiari Cephus—has made a formal request to share legal custody of their three children: Kulture, who is six years old, Wave, who is three, and their youngest child, a five-month-old daughter whose name
has not been disclosed to the public. While he is requesting joint custody, Offset has also stated in the
filing that he is open to the children’s primary residence being with Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar.
In addition to the custody arrangement, Offset has also requested that both he and Cardi be responsible for their own legal fees, as reported by TMZ. This means that each party would cover their own legal expenses rather than one being ordered to pay for both. So far, neither Cardi B nor Offset have publicly commented on this development, and representatives for both have not responded to requests for statements from E! News.
Cardi B and Offset have had a tumultuous relationship since they secretly tied the knot in 2017. The couple has faced numerous challenges, including previous breakups, reconciliations, and allegations of infidelity. Cardi initially filed for divorce in July, marking the latest chapter in their on-again, off-again relationship. While the pair had moments of apparent amicability following the filing, tensions have since resurfaced, particularly on social media.
In December, Cardi B had publicly stated that she and Offset were in a “peaceful” place and had established a “really healthy co-parenting” dynamic. However, Offset appeared to contradict this sentiment shortly thereafter in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). In a since-deleted message, Offset expressed his frustration with Cardi, writing, “Stop capping to these ppl to make yourself look like the hoe it ain’t the look. U a fire woman, good music, but u focus on d–k and tryna make me look bad.”
Cardi did not take long to respond, making it clear that she wanted Offset to finalize the divorce. She fired back on X with a blunt message, telling him to “F–k off and sign the papers.”
However, her grievances didn’t end there. In January, Cardi B made further claims against Offset and his mother, Latabia Woodward, accusing them of taking advantage of her financially. Speaking during a discussion on X Spaces on January 14, Cardi claimed, “I ain’t listen after you and your momma robbed me. Yeah, you and your mom robbed me cold. Wiped my nose. Told you stop f–king playing with me.”
Cardi did not specify exactly what she believed she had been “robbed” of but hinted that Offset had been using their children as leverage to delay the divorce proceedings. She accused him of dragging out the legal process under the pretense of wanting to spend time with their kids while, in reality, neglecting them.
“You wanna talk about, you haven’t accepted the divorce because you not gonna agree on my terms ’cause you just wanna see the kids,” she alleged. “You wanna see the kids? You just called your daughter for the first time this year, yesterday. Your newborn. You love your kids so much and you didn’t bought them s–t for Christmas.”
This latest round of public disputes highlights the deepening divide between the former couple as they work through their legal battle. Cardi B and Offset’s relationship has been marked by multiple breakups and reconciliations, but this time, the divorce proceedings seem to be progressing, despite personal accusations and heated exchanges. While Offset’s request for joint custody signals his desire to maintain a legal role in his children’s lives, Cardi’s accusations suggest that there are still unresolved tensions regarding his level of involvement as a father.
The unfolding custody battle between Cardi B and Offset is likely to be a complex and closely watched legal process. Fans and media outlets continue to monitor the situation as new developments arise. The couple, known for their public ups and downs, must now navigate the difficult task of co-parenting while dealing with the emotional fallout of their split.
At this time, it remains uncertain whether Offset and Cardi will be able to reach a mutual agreement on custody and other divorce-related matters without further disputes. However, one thing is clear—the drama between them is far from over.
