Susanna Reid receives immense criticism from GMB viewers for making an ignorant comment about the country’s current situation.

Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain took an unexpected turn when hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley paused their usual programming to share breaking news.

The moment came just after 8 a.m., when the presenters introduced an exclusive statement from former Prime Minister Boris Johnson,

who claimed that a deal over Ukraine was imminent.

Before passing over to the show’s chief correspondent, Richard Gaisford, Reid delivered the breaking news update.

“Good Morning Britain, it has just gone eight o’clock, and our main breaking news this morning,” she announced.

“Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson tells this programme there is a deal to be done over Ukraine,

and now is the time for the UK to step up in negotiations with the US to end [the conflict].”

Boris Johnson Predicts US-Ukraine Deal

Following Reid’s introduction, Madeley took over, summarizing Johnson’s comments. He explained that the former Prime Minister had spoken live on the show just minutes earlier, predicting that a major deal between the United States and Ukraine would be finalized in the coming days.

“He was speaking here live just a few minutes ago, predicting that there will be a deal in the next couple of days between America and Ukraine over mineral rights, which effectively, he says, will put America back with skin in the game. Big game changer, he said,” Madeley reported.

As the discussion continued, Madeley highlighted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent comments about his own political future. “Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of course, has said that he’ll step down from his job if it guarantees peace, so a lot happening today,” he added.

Diplomatic Meetings and Political Reactions

The segment also touched on upcoming diplomatic engagements, including Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s planned visit to Washington later in the week. “This week, Sir Keir Starmer is heading to Washington. He goes on Thursday to meet the US president, and our chief correspondent Richard Gaisford is in Kyiv for us,” Madeley continued.

From Kyiv, Gaisford joined the programme via video link, providing further details on the situation on the ground. He reported that a major diplomatic summit was underway in the Ukrainian capital, with 13 world leaders meeting to discuss the ongoing crisis.

“There’s a big diplomatic gathering here today in Kyiv, 13 world leaders sitting down with Volodymyr Zelenskyy for an emergency summit. They’re standing shoulder to shoulder with him, not just against Vladimir Putin, but seemingly, now increasingly, against Donald Trump as well,” Gaisford explained.

Adding an unexpected twist, Gaisford revealed that he had encountered Boris Johnson in central Kyiv earlier that morning. “Caught off guard to see Boris Johnson casually walking by in central Kyiv this morning. After a conversation with him, it’s evident he’s dissatisfied with Donald Trump’s method, yet believes a deal with the US is achievable,” he reported.

Johnson Calls for UK and European Action

The ITV show then aired a clip of Johnson’s full remarks, in which he elaborated on his views regarding the ongoing negotiations. He urged European nations, including the UK, to step up their efforts in supporting Ukraine.

“You’ve just got to keep knocking the ball back over there,” Johnson stated. “I mean, this is crazy stuff, and I agree it’s all well in, but you’ve got to look at what is actually being proposed. And I think, to a certain extent, the deal-making going on, the brinkmanship now is the moment for us to step up and do what I think that Trump wants Europe to do, and that is show how we have a plan to help secure Ukraine.”

Perhaps the most striking part of Johnson’s statement was his suggestion that European troops, including those from the UK, could be involved in securing Ukraine. “And that’s going to mean, I believe, UK troops, there are going to be French troops, troops as another European country,” he claimed.

A High-Stakes Moment in Global Politics

With tensions continuing to rise, Johnson’s comments add further weight to the ongoing discussions about Western involvement in Ukraine. His suggestion that a deal between the US and Ukraine is imminent will likely spark further debate, particularly as world leaders, including Sir Keir Starmer, prepare for diplomatic talks in Washington.

As the situation develops, Good Morning Britain promises to keep viewers updated on the latest news from Kyiv and beyond.
