The iconic “Free Your Mind” singer, now 58, recently opened up about her deeply personal 

journey, revealing that she has been living in her car for the past three years. In an emotional and candid YouTube video shared on Tuesday, she detailed the series of events that led her to this unconventional lifestyle, describing it as a path toward healing and self-discovery.

“You guys, for the past three years, I have been living in my car. I said it, oh my gosh,

 it’s out,” she confessed in the nearly 20-minute video, releasing an audible sigh, as if unburdening herself of a long-held secret. What followed was a heartfelt account of resilience, frustration, and ultimately, a newfound sense of freedom.

Robinson explained that her decision to live in her car came after an emotionally taxing period living with her parents in Las Vegas, a move she made in 2020. When she arrived, she realized there was no real space for her in his home. Feeling displaced once again, she moved into a hotel, where she ended up staying for eight months while searching for a more permanent place to live.

Her search for stability proved to be more challenging than she anticipated. Robinson explained that her manager continued to create obstacles, often dismissing the apartments she found as unsuitable.

“Every apartment that I looked at, every single time I looked at a place, I would call him and I’m like, ‘Okay, can you meet me here?’ I would tell him ahead of time, of course. And then, he wouldn’t meet me there,” she recalled. “So I would take video and send it to him and he’s like, ‘No, oh my god. This neighborhood, I hate it.’”

Frustrated and feeling powerless, Robinson eventually stopped relying on others and began exploring a different approach. She turned to YouTube, where she discovered an entire community of people living in their cars — not out of necessity, but by choice. Inspired by their resilience and resourcefulness, she started watching “car life” videos and realized that perhaps this unconventional lifestyle could be a path to something more meaningful.

“I felt free,” she said, explaining how her perspective shifted. What began as a painful circumstance transformed into an opportunity for introspection and growth. “It just felt like I was on a camping trip. It felt like the right thing to do.”
