A$AP Rocky, the celebrated rapper and partner of Rihanna, was found not guilty of felony assault charges on Tuesday, 

following a highly publicized trial involving a shooting incident with his former friend, A$AP Relli. 

The jury’s unanimous decision spared the 36-year-old rapper from the possibility of facing up to 24 years in prison. 

The courtroom erupted in emotion as Rihanna, who had been a steadfast supporter throughout the trial, broke down in tears upon hearing the verdict. 

Rocky immediately ran to embrace her, thanking the jury for “saving my life” as he left the courtroom.

The charges against Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers, stemmed from a 2021 altercation in Hollywood with his one-time friend Terell Ephron, known professionally as A$AP Relli. 

The two had previously been close, both part of the A$AP Mob collective during their high school years in New York. However, their relationship soured after Rocky achieved fame, leading to the events that would ultimately bring them to court. 

Relli had testified that during the confrontation, Rocky fired two shots from a handgun, one of which grazed his knuckle. Rocky’s defense team, led by attorney Joe Tacopina, vehemently denied these claims. Tacopina argued that Rocky had been carrying a prop gun, not a real firearm capable of firing live bullets. He further accused Relli of lying under oath, calling him a “pathological liar” and suggesting that he had committed perjury throughout the trial. While the jury did not provide specific details on their reasoning, they were instructed that they could find Rocky not guilty if they believed he had acted in self-defense.

The trial lasted three weeks and ended with the jury deliberating for approximately three hours. The outcome was a victory for Rocky, who had previously turned down a plea deal that would have seen him serve six months in jail and probation in exchange for a guilty plea to one count. Rocky had insisted on his innocence, opting to face trial in the hopes that a jury would clear his name. The decision to reject the plea deal ultimately paid off, as the jury found there was reasonable doubt about his guilt.

Outside the courtroom, Rocky expressed his relief and gratitude, thanking God and the jury for their decision. His partner Rihanna, who had attended the trial on and off, shared her own feelings of gratitude on social media. On Instagram Stories, she posted a message that read, “THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD AND GOD ALONE! THANKFUL, HUMBLED BY HIS MERCY!” Rihanna’s presence and support for Rocky were evident throughout the trial, and she was seen comforting him in the courtroom after the verdict was announced.

In the aftermath of the trial, Rocky and Rihanna celebrated together with a private dinner at the Gravitas Social Club in Beverly Hills. Their bond, both personal and professional, has been well-documented, and this trial proved to be a major moment in their shared journey.

The case also marks a significant chapter in Rocky’s career. Following the verdict, the rapper is now free to focus on his upcoming projects. He is scheduled to headline the Rolling Loud music festival in March and will serve as one of the celebrity co-chairs for the highly anticipated Met Gala in May. Additionally, he is set to star in the upcoming film *Highest 2 Lowest*, directed by Spike Lee, alongside Denzel Washington.
