Phillip Schofield has reportedly been approached by executives for a television comeback, a year on from quitting This Morning over an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a runner
Phillip Schofield is rumoured to be in discussions for a television comeback.
The presenter was seen dining with one of the show’s hosts, Declan Donnelly, last month, sparking rumours that he might be set to star in the new series of I’m A Celebrity.
Insiders suggest that Ant and Dec think Phillip joining the jungle would be the “best move” for him after his departure from This Morning in May 2023. The 62-year-old left the show following his revelation about an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.
After a year of silence, Phillip was seen having a reported four-hour long dinner with Dec in May and has also since returned to social media. Sources told Bella Magazine: “Phillip is not the same since being away from TV, it’s what he’s done all his life and all he’s wanted. There are whispers that Ant and Dec are eager to have him on I’m A Celeb.”
Another source, as reported by the Express, added: “He’s very much looking for a TV comeback and to do it in the right way. He’s always got on well with both Ant and Dec and they have a long friendship.
I’m A Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec ‘believe the show is the best move’ for Phillip Schofield
Representatives for Phillip, Ant and Dec, and the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! team have been reached for a comment.
Phillip Schofield revealed he “lost everything” after admitting to an affair with a younger colleague, which led to his departure from This Morning after more than two decades.
The TV veteran initially presented the show alongside Fern Britton for seven years before Holly Willoughby stepped in. She too left the programme last October after a 14-year run. A year on from his exit, Phillip returned to Instagram last month, posting an image of himself and his dog Alfie enjoying Formula One. He captioned the post: “Thankfully, Alfie is a big @f1 fan.”
On the post, which had limited comments, Phillip’s lawyer niece Matilda Graham responded with a hearts in eyes emoji. Fran Quinn, an author from Brighton, commented: “Very cute!” while Alice Beer, This Morning’s consumer expert, said: “Funny! Stan cannot see anything on the tv. Just doesn’t register.”
Food writer Kate Bishop also chimed in with: “F1 squared. “.
The post has since garnered over 80,000 likes, including from Phillip’s former This Morning colleagues Rochelle Humes, Craig Doyle, Dermot O’Leary, and Josie Gibson.
