Lorraine Kelly has publicly criticized Wynne Evans,
calling him a ‘nutter’ following his inappropriate sexual remarks that led to his removal from the Strictly Come Dancing tour.
The 53-year-old singer and broadcaster was caught on camera making an explicit comment about one of the show’s female hosts, which was exposed by The Mail on Sunday.
In response to the backlash, Evans has agreed to step away from the tour and other professional commitments to reflect on his actions.
During Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Lorraine Kelly did not hold back her thoughts on the controversy.
Speaking to hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid, the 65-year-old presenter expressed her disbelief over Evans’ behavior.
She remarked, “He has to think about what he has done. I don’t get it, I don’t understand it. I don’t know why you would think that was acceptable? What kind of nutter does that when you are being filmed? It’s bad enough to think it, but then to actually say it!”
The controversy began when a video surfaced of Evans making an inappropriate comment during a Strictly tour photo call. The Go Compare star was recorded suggesting a three-way sexual encounter with Janette Manrara, using the term ‘spit roast’—a remark that sparked widespread outrage. As a result, Evans decided to address the situation publicly.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday evening, Evans issued a statement, saying, “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritize my wellbeing. I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances, and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
Adding to the fallout, reports have emerged that Evans has also parted ways with his girlfriend, Liz Brookes, 50, who was reportedly left feeling ‘humiliated’ by his behavior. A source close to the couple revealed to The Sun that while Brookes had previously stood by Evans, this latest controversy was the final straw. The insider shared, “Although she loyally stood by him in public, Liz was humiliated by what happened when he was on Strictly. She always knew he was a bit old school and actually liked the fact he seemed rough around the edges, assuming it was all part of his charm. However, when his latest lewd remark was revealed at the Strictly Live Tour launch, she was relieved they were no longer together.”
This incident is not the first time Evans has found himself at the center of controversy during his time on Strictly. Previously, he was accused of inappropriately touching his professional dance partner, Katya Jones, 35, live on air. However, both Evans and Jones later dismissed the claims, stating it was merely a joke. Evans, who was the eighth celebrity to be eliminated from the competition, had been included in the Strictly tour lineup before the latest scandal led to his withdrawal.
The Strictly tour, hosted by Janette Manrara, features a cast of celebrity contestants, including Jamie Borthwick, Montell Douglas, Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill, Sarah Hadland, and Shayne Ward. The tour commenced in Birmingham on January 17 and is set to conclude on February 9. Evans’ removal from the lineup has caused a stir among fans, but the BBC has remained firm in its decision.
As the fallout continues, it remains uncertain whether Evans will be able to rehabilitate his public image. With Lorraine Kelly and other public figures condemning his behavior, the scandal has cast a shadow over his career, leaving many questioning what the future holds for the once-popular entertainer.
