Prince Harry believes his brother, Prince William, has always been seen as the far more reliable prince by his father, according to a royal author.
Author of ‘Scandals of the Royal Palaces:
An Intimate Memoir of Royals Behaving Badly’, Tom Quinn, said since Harry was a teenager he always thought King Charles “preferred” William who was less “volatile”.
He told the Mirror: “Harry’s real beef is that he is convinced Charles always preferred William anyway and not just because William is the heir.
Harry’s difficulties when he was a teenager and his increasing volatility as an adult terrified Charles who turned to the far more stable, risk-free William.”
The expert added Charles saw William as a “safe pair of hands”.
He added: “Charles increasingly saw William as a safe pair of hands and Harry as too emotionally unstable. Deep down Harry knows this and he deeply resents it.”
The distance has grown between Harry and King Charles and Prince William following the Duke stepping down as a working royal in 2020 alongside Meghan Markle.
And conducting a series of high-profile interviews detailing his private life within the Royal Family.
Hopes were raised that the royals were starting to fix their relationship after Harry rushed back to the UK after it was announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer. However, when Harry returned to the UK for a 10th anniversary service for the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in May, there was no meeting between the pair.
Prince Harry’s strained relationship with his father, King Charles, dates back to his teenage years, according to royal expert Tom Quinn. Quinn detailed in his book ‘The Royal Rift: A Family Divided’ how Harry always felt overshadowed by his older brother, Prince William, in the eyes of their father. Charles, who viewed William as the more stable and dependable son, often struggled to connect with Harry’s more impulsive nature. As Harry grew older, his conflicts with his father only worsened, especially after his decision to step down as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020. The Duke of Sussex’s candid interviews about his struggles within the royal institution further strained his already fragile relationship with King Charles. Despite a brief moment of hope when Harry returned to the UK for a family event after Charles’ cancer diagnosis, the rift between father and son remained unhealed. The lack of a formal meeting between Harry and Charles at the Invictus Games anniversary service highlighted the deep-seated issues within the royal family. While there were hopes for reconciliation, the reality of their fractured relationship was evident in the absence of any real progress towards healing. As Harry continues to navigate his new life outside of the monarchy, the distance between him and his father only seems to grow wider. It is clear that the dynamics within the royal family are complex and multifaceted, with each member grappling with their own set of challenges and expectations. The ongoing rift between Prince Harry and King Charles serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by even the most privileged families. Despite their status, they are not immune to the complexities of human relationships and the difficulties that come with navigating family dynamics under the public spotlight.
