The investigation into *MasterChef* star Gregg Wallace’s alleged inappropriate behavior on set has officially begun,
with his production company, Banijay UK, hiring a law firm to handle the matter.
Several women have come forward with serious accusations against the celebrity chef,
and the law firm is now interviewing these individuals to thoroughly investigate the claims.
Wallace, 60, is facing accusations from at least 13 women who allege misconduct that spans over a 17-year period.
The allegations include instances of Wallace roaming around naked with a sock covering his genitalia, making inappropriate jokes, and groping crew members.
Among the accusers are high-profile figures such as Penny Lancaster, wife of rock legend Rod Stewart, and former *Newsnight* presenter Kirsty Wark. These women have reportedly been invited to provide evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Sources indicate that Banijay UK has hired the law firm Lewis Silkin to oversee the investigation, aiming to conclude it “as quickly as possible.” However, insiders have noted that due to the extensive nature of the allegations, including years of alleged incidents, the process is proving to be “very time-consuming.” The investigation will involve reviewing a large amount of footage, documents, and interviewing everyone who has raised concerns about Wallace’s behavior—both publicly and privately. A source close to the situation mentioned that anyone with relevant information could also come forward.
The investigation is also focused on ensuring that *MasterChef*’s reputation remains intact. According to the source, the production company is determined to leave “no stone unturned” in order to protect the integrity of the beloved show, which continues to have a massive following.
In November, the first allegations of Wallace’s misconduct were made public when 13 women, including well-known figures like Kirsty Wark, formally complained about his behavior. These incidents reportedly occurred across five shows between 2005 and 2022. Wallace’s actions reportedly came to the attention of BBC executives, including Kate Phillips, who expressed concern over the alleged behavior, saying it was “unacceptable and cannot continue.”
Other sources have suggested that Wallace’s inappropriate behavior was not only tolerated by the production team but also overlooked. One former producer, Georgia Harding, who worked on *MasterChef* between 2014 and 2015, claimed that Wallace undressed in front of colleagues and made sexually inappropriate jokes. Harding alleges that when concerns about Wallace’s actions were raised, “nothing was done” to address the issue, and there was an “acceptance” of his behavior.
Wallace has also been accused of making sexually inappropriate comments towards a female colleague, even going so far as to ask about her relationship in an intrusive manner. TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp has also come forward, claiming that Wallace made an inappropriate sexual joke to her during her appearance on *MasterChef*.
Despite the severity of the allegations, Wallace has vehemently denied the misconduct claims. He has previously dismissed the accusations by referring to them as being from “middle-class women of a certain age,” which only intensified the controversy surrounding him. His dismissive response sparked further outrage, prompting an apology in which Wallace expressed regret for causing offense. In his apology, he explained that he had been “under a huge amount of stress” and was “not in a good headspace” when making his controversial remarks on social media. Wallace acknowledged the need to step away from *MasterChef* while the investigation is ongoing, hoping that his apology would be accepted.
More recently, Wallace attempted to address his public image through his blog, writing about overcoming “mistakes” and viewing them as “slip-ups” that make someone “only human.” He encouraged his followers to not worry about making mistakes, framing them as part of the learning process. His message seemed to suggest that he was trying to turn the page from the ongoing investigation into his behavior.
As the legal process continues and more women come forward with their own accounts, the outcome of the investigation remains uncertain. The situation has already raised questions about the accountability of public figures in the entertainment industry and how such accusations are handled. With Wallace’s career at a crossroads, many are awaiting the resolution of the investigation to determine the future of his involvement with *MasterChef* and his public image.
