TV presenter Josie Gibson recently shared a comical mix-up she experienced while filming her new series, The First Class Travel Show.
The This Morning star, known for her bubbly personality,
revealed that she mistakenly assumed an intimate gift in her hotel room was something entirely different—much to the amusement of her producers.
Josie’s Awkward Misunderstanding
While filming in Dubai, Josie was delighted by the array of complimentary items provided in her luxury hotel room.
However, one particular freebie left her rather red-faced.
“When I was in Dubai, they gave you so many freebies in your room. I said, ‘Ooh, this is brilliant, a Protector kit. You even get your own bug spray!’” she recalled. Unfortunately, she quickly realized that her assumption was completely off the mark.
“The producers went to me, ‘It’s not that sort of protection, Josie!’” she explained. The kit, rather than being an insect repellent, was actually a raunchy set intended for couples.
Laughing at her mistake, Josie admitted that she didn’t even bother checking what was inside the kit. “I just left that to my imagination. I am not a woman of the world when it comes to things like that.”
Living in Luxury – But Missing the Simple Things
As part of The First Class Travel Show, Josie traveled in first-class cabins, dined in high-end restaurants, and stayed in some of the world’s most luxurious hotels. Her journeys took her across Scandinavia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean, giving her a taste of the glamorous lifestyle.
However, despite experiencing ultimate luxury, Josie soon found herself longing for more basic pleasures.
“I don’t want to see another glass of Champagne for as long as I live,” she confessed.
Although Champagne was readily available wherever she went, the novelty quickly wore off. “I know this is going to sound so bad, but there was so much luxury that I just wanted a glass of water,” she admitted.
Josie, who is known for making the most out of any opportunity, also revealed that she couldn’t resist indulging in all the available treats.
“I’m one of these people because I didn’t grow up with it, I’ve got to have it. You make the most out of everything. If there are any freebies to take, I am taking them. Any drinks to be had or food to be tried—I am trying it all. First World problems, but I am totally Champagned out!”
From Butlins to First-Class Travel
For Josie, the experience of hosting a luxury travel show was completely unexpected. The former Big Brother winner, who rose to fame after winning the reality show in 2010, never imagined she’d be leading a series centered around first-class getaways.
“I thought it was a wind-up when they asked me to do it,” she admitted, recalling her humble holiday experiences growing up.
Coming from a large family, Josie explained that lavish vacations were never an option. Instead of jet-setting to exotic destinations, her childhood getaways were much closer to home.
“When we were younger, we didn’t really go on holidays. I’m one of six, so our holidays would have been in Brean or Butlin’s. I still go to those places now, mind. I’m still a fan.”
One particularly amusing memory from her childhood was how her mother made their local trips seem more adventurous than they actually were.
“My mum would put us in the back of the car and drive around for ages on the estate, so it felt like we were going somewhere really far. But we were just being dropped off at this little field up the road by the quarry in Rangeworthy. We would camp there, but when you’re a kid, it doesn’t matter, does it?”
Experiencing the World’s Most Luxurious Destinations
The extravagant locations Josie visited for the show were a world away from those childhood camping trips. While in Qatar, she stayed at the five-star Mondrian Hotel in Doha, which is renowned for its Arabian wonderland-themed interiors.
In Sweden, she explored a private island, and in Dubai, she experienced the opulence of Anantara at the Palm—a resort known for its private beach and personal infinity pools.
Planning Future Trips with Her Son
Although she loved the experience of traveling to these lavish destinations, there was one downside—Josie couldn’t bring her six-year-old son, Reggie, along due to her intense filming schedule.
However, she hopes to return to at least one of the places she visited, this time with Reggie by her side.
“I think he would quite like Dubai because it’s geared up for kids,” she said, explaining that one particular feature of her Dubai stay would be especially exciting for him.
“I was in a villa on the water with a glass floor, so you can look down at the sea while you’re having your breakfast.”
While Josie may be happy to take a break from Champagne, it’s clear that her adventures on The First Class Travel Show have left her with incredible memories—and perhaps a new appreciation for the finer things in life.
