Jeremy Clarkson Praised for His Kindness in Surprise Car S.O.S Appearance
Jeremy Clarkson, best known for his time on Top Gear and The Grand Tour, has built a reputation for his sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude.
However, according to Car S.O.S host Tim Shaw, the veteran TV presenter showed a different side of himself
when he made a surprise appearance on the National Geographic car restoration series.
Speaking about the upcoming 13th season of Car S.O.S, Shaw expressed his amazement at how “accommodating and kind”
Clarkson was when the team approached him with a special request. Despite being extremely busy managing his Oxfordshire farm,
the 64-year-old TV personality welcomed the show’s crew and even went above and beyond their expectations.
Clarkson’s Unexpected Generosity
The Car S.O.S team needed a location for a heartwarming car reveal in the fifth episode of the new season. With hopes set high, Shaw decided to take a chance and reach out to Clarkson’s longtime assistant, explaining the touching backstory behind the restored vehicle.
Although many in the industry had warned Shaw that Clarkson was “very unlikely to take part in the show”, the response came back almost immediately—with an enthusiastic yes.
“We were all totally stunned,” Shaw admitted.
Not only did Clarkson agree to host the reveal at his farm, but he also allowed the team to bring along a full coach of guests—an act of generosity that exceeded their wildest expectations.
“We had the entire family there, and when you see the size of the group, you realise just how generous this offer was,” Shaw said. “I mean, think about it—60 strangers turning up at your property!”
A Warm Welcome at Clarkson’s Farm
Upon arrival at Clarkson’s well-known Oxfordshire farm—made famous through his hit Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm—the Car S.O.S team and the car’s owner were invited inside for a chat.
Clarkson, known for his dry humor and sharp remarks, greeted the team warmly. According to Shaw, he spent around 30 minutes engaging with them in his kitchen, making jokes while also showing genuine interest in the project.
“Of course, he was typically sarcastic and funny,” Shaw said. “But what might surprise the Jeremy Clarkson sceptics is just how accommodating and kind he was. He genuinely cared about the wellbeing of both the team and, most importantly, the car’s owner.”
A Heartfelt Gesture from a TV Icon
Clarkson’s involvement in the show culminated in the grand reveal of a beautifully restored Land Rover Discovery Series 1, which was presented to its owner, James. Shaw recalled that while Clarkson didn’t suddenly become overly sentimental, his kindness spoke volumes.
“Now, I wasn’t expecting hugs, tears, or a big outpouring of emotion from Jeremy when we handed the car back to its owner,” Shaw admitted. “But he showed everyone involved that day that he’s a kind, caring guy—even while keeping up that classic Clarkson front.”
This moment, according to Shaw, was “one of the kindest gestures we’ve ever had from any celebrity” in the show’s 12-year history.
Clarkson’s Expanding Ventures
Beyond his occasional TV appearances, Clarkson has been busy managing his farming business. His Amazon Prime series, Clarkson’s Farm, has given audiences an inside look at the challenges of running Diddly Squat Farm, based in Chadlington near Chipping Norton.
The show, which has gained widespread popularity, has already completed three seasons, with a fourth currently in production. The upcoming season will showcase Clarkson’s efforts to expand his business ventures, which now include Hawkstone Brewery and The Farmer’s Dog, a pub located in Asthall, near Burford.
In addition to farming, Clarkson continues to host Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on ITV. Meanwhile, his long-running motoring series The Grand Tour officially concluded last year, marking the end of an era with his co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May.
The Return of Car S.O.S
Since its launch in 2013, Car S.O.S has gained a loyal fanbase for its heartfelt car restorations and moving stories. Hosted by Tim Shaw and John “Fuzz” Townshend, the show has restored hundreds of vehicles, surprising owners with jaw-dropping transformations.
With its 13th season set to premiere on March 13 on National Geographic, fans can look forward to more inspiring stories—one of which will feature Clarkson in a rare, unexpectedly compassionate role.
For those who know him only for his brash TV persona, his appearance on Car S.O.S might just change their perception. While Clarkson may still enjoy his reputation as a tough-talking TV legend, this latest act of generosity proves there’s more to him than meets the eye.
