ITV’s James Martin horrified after sparking huge kitchen fire: ‘It’s exploded’
ITV celebrity chef James Martin has recounted the terrifying moment when a ‘huge’ explosion led to his house catching fire.
Chatting on Simon Rimmer’s Grilling podcast, James shared the hair-raising tale of how his homemade Italian pizza oven caused quite the stir.
The 52-year-old chef admitted, “I set fire to the side of my house. It was quite an incident because… I love builders, especially a group of Irish builders who built an Italian pizza oven roof.”
He amusingly added, “Instead of having metal, [they] built it out of wood, which is quite handy.”
The drama unfolded as he described: “Next minute, there was an almighty bang. It was like, honestly, it was [a] huge explosion, and you get bits of lamb chops, pork chops, sausages flying over the top of this house. It was massive.”
James went on to say: “There was an air gap in the brickwork, and it basically overheated and exploded – the whole thing – with my dad stood next to it. The image that I’ve got is just chops going about 20-30 feet in the air. It was hilarious.”, reports Birmingham Live.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported following the incident. In a light-hearted twist, James mentioned that they even collected the scattered food to carry on with their festivities.
Martin resides in a lavish country estate in Hampshire, where he also films his beloved cooking show. His impressive abode sprawls over 1.5 acres, featuring seven bedrooms, an outdoor kitchen, and a greenhouse.
James recently opened up about his unusual sleeping habit after deciding to stay in a campervan, as he said he never wants to stop working to keep his career going, as he worries about it ending.
He said to Simon Rimmer: “I worry about it ending for sure, not that I’m pressed about it now as much as I was. But I still care more than I did before, if that makes sense?
“”Because when I do This Morning, none of the home economists can understand why I’m in there at five o’clock in the morning. They don’t understand.”
