Freddie Flintoff’s wife was given a haunting three-word warning before seeing her husband following his horror crash while filming Top Gear
Freddie Flintoff endured a life-altering crash in a sports car during the filming of a Top Gear episode, a moment that has marked a turning point in his life.
Tonight, the former England cricket icon, 46, returned to television for the first time since his crash with BBC One’s second series of the cricket-focused documentary, Field of Dreams.
When queried on his recovery since the accident during his new show, Freddie admitted he doesn’t know if he will ever get better again.
He told BBC viewers:
“Not really, I’m not sure I ever will again to be honest. I’m better than I was. I don’t know what completely better is. I am what I am now, I’m different to what I was, that’s something I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my life. Better, no, different.”
The incident occurred in 2022 at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey while piloting a roofless Morgan Super 3. The vehicle catastrophically overturned resulting in Flintoff being urgently flown to a medical facility suffering severe injuries including broken ribs and damage to his face.
Rachael Wilson, Freddie’s wife, rushed to his bedside and was told to “expect the worst”.
A source disclosed to The Sun details of the accident: “The injuries were more severe as the car didn’t have a roof. It was a freak accident and somehow the car flipped over and the two men were dragged along. Freddie and the crew member were both wearing helmets, but it was still a severe accident. Everyone on the scene was shocked by how serious it was and they were very worried about the two men strapped in.”
In a heartfelt revelation to Mail Online, Corey, the second eldest son of cricket legend, opened up about his father’s horrific accident and subsequent daunting recovery.
He said: “He’s OK. I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive. It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he’s going to be OK,” reports the Mirror.
Freddie and his wife Rachael have been a steadfast duo since their paths crossed in 2002 during a work event. Recalling their initial connection to the Daily Mail back in 2007, Rachael shared: “He really wasn’t my type physically, because I always go for dark men, but I thought he was the funniest guy I had ever met.
“He got hold of my mobile number and texted me a couple of times, and we met up for a drink, and I was pretty much bowled over by his charm.”
Their blossoming romance culminated in an extravagant wedding at the swanky Pavilion Road Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, in 2005.
The family has grown since, with Holly, Corey, Rocky, and Preston completing their brood, residing in a luxurious £2.5 million mansion in Altrincham, Manchester.
