Prince Harry is enjoying his whirlwind tour around the globe, which has taken him to New York City, the U.K., and now South Africa. His reemergence in the public eye as a philanthropist is reshaping the narrative that has clung to him ever since his royal exit, but his solo outings also have some palace watchers concerned. Where is Meghan Markle?
This wouldn’t be the first time there are rumors about their marriage, but it seems to be much ado about nothing. The couple is reshaping their careers and each is pursuing solo projects that lean into their passions. The Duke of Sussex was praised by Vanity Fair for becoming “a representative of himself—and his ideas” which “reveal a direct point of view now, formed both by his years in the royal family, the research he’s done, and the experiences he’s had outside of it” after his recent Manhattan appearances. The Duchess of Sussex is leaning into her softer side with her upcoming lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
PR expert Mark Borkowski told The Telegraph, “There has been a separation [of their work] for a while.” Harry is “going back to basics” with a formula that worked well for him as a royal family member, but there’s also the realization that the couple’s “star power” wasn’t as successful as they hoped. Borkowski added, “They had to change the narrative. They need a venture that deflects from the failures. The charity aspect impresses upon everybody that he [Harry] does have value beyond the controversial stuff. It has the effect of separating them from the bad press and the failed content ideas.”
Prince Harry is returning to his roots by honoring his late mother, Princess Diana, through his work. “Harry is devoted to upholding his mother’s legacy – as it’s the one thing that keeps her memory alive for him,” a source told The Mirror US. “Harry sees himself in his mother so much, they are almost like spirit twins in their nature and their approach to things.” By staying true to his Spencer roots, which Diana’s family is also supporting, Harry will probably discover that the headlines will turn around for him quickly.
Meghan has a tougher battle ahead since the U.K. tabloids won’t let go of the bullying claims. Even with supportive Archewell staffers going on record with US Weekly to sing her praises, the sometimes cruel stories seem to creep back to the surface. Her Netflix show and brand won’t launch until 2025, so she might have to slog through the mess a little bit longer. But the couple is finally showing that they have a focused direction as individuals and as a power couple.
