Fans mock the official trailer of Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film, calling it ‘boring and uncreative.’ “I see no reason to watch this movie when I can watch real F1 races featuring actual drivers”

Brad Pitt gets behind the wheel of a Formula 1 racing car in his upcoming film F1.

The first teaser trailer for the movie debuted during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix on Sunday, July 7, which the Hollywood legend, 60, attended with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon.

The Legends of the Fall actor, 60, stars as a retired driver ‘who returns to Formula 1 at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid, per a synopsis of the film.

He and Damson Idris, who plays his teammate Joshua Pearce, ‘compete against the titans of the sport.

Joseph Kosinski directed the film. He also helmed Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise, another actor who has felt the need for speed.

Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton – who won the British Grand Prix today – produced the film alongside Pitt and Jerry Bruckheimer.

The film was made in collaboration with Formula 1 and the F1 community. All 10 F1 teams and their drivers, the FIA and race promoters contributed to the authenticity of the story.

The F1 package was acquired by Apple for $130 million-$140 million – a price that doesn’t include the salaries of the principal actors, director, writer and producers, Deadline reported.

The movie was filmed  at various F1 races around the globe for the past few years and also stars Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.

The trailer opens with Pitt rattling off the names of the companies behind the F1 teams and telling Condon he needs a car that can go faster than that.

Pitt is seen in his race car speeding around the track as Queen’s We Will Rock You plays in the background. As he hits a high speed, it cuts to a title card.

Production is still underway and cast and crew were filming at the British Grand Prix over the weekend.

Filming is due to continue as late as the Abu Dhabi race in December of this year.

More footage will be captured in the coming months in Hungary, Belgium, Mexico City and Las Vegas.

In the first poster for the movie, Pitt can be seen in the helmet of his fictional team ‘APXGP’, and he will star alongside Damson Idris – who plays his teammate.

Fans weren’t bowled over by the title of the movie. Taking to social media to react, one fan wrote: ‘What a boring and unimaginative title,’ while another added: ‘Must have taken them ages to come up with that.’

Elsewhere, though, others overlooked the basic title to share their excitement over the movie, which is set to take the popularity of the sport through the roof.

‘I can’t wait for this,’ one wrote, and another fan added: ‘Hand over the Oscar already!’

F1 will hit theaters and IMAX on June 27, 2025 in North America and June 25, 2025 internationally.

Brad Pitt is not the only Hollywood legend to get behind the wheel of a racing car for a movie. Tom Cruise, known for his daredevil stunts in the Mission Impossible series, also starred in the Top Gun series where he flew fighter jets. It seems like these actors are drawn to roles that involve speed and adrenaline!

The collaboration between Formula 1 and the film industry is an exciting development. It not only brings more attention to the sport but also allows fans to experience the thrill of racing on the big screen. With all 10 F1 teams and their drivers involved in the production, the movie promises to be authentic and engaging for both racing enthusiasts and movie buffs.

Apple’s acquisition of the F1 package for $130 million-$140 million just goes to show the popularity and commercial potential of the sport. With big names like Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton attached to the project, F1 is set to reach a wider audience and gain even more fans.

The filming locations for the movie are truly global, spanning from the British Grand Prix to races in Hungary, Belgium, Mexico City, and even Las Vegas. This not only adds to the authenticity of the film but also showcases the international appeal of Formula 1 as a sport.

Despite some mixed reactions to the movie’s title, there is no denying the anticipation and excitement surrounding its release. With a star-studded cast, a thrilling storyline, and the high-octane world of Formula 1 as its backdrop, F1 is shaping up to be a blockbuster hit that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
