In his memoir *Spare*, Prince Harry recounts a heated meeting with Prince William and Kate, intended to clear the air after tensions between the two couples.
The bitter fallout between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with the Prince and Princess of Wales has long been brewing.
Despite being dubbed the ‘Fab Four,’ Meghan never clicked with Prince William and Kate, even though there were high hopes they would become close friends and represent a modern monarchy.
But the two couples’ seemingly vastly different personalities and approaches to life meant there were tensions between them, which have come back to the fore in a brand new book bombshell book.
In Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, author Robert Jobson looks at the tension between the two couples, which intensified after Harry and Meghan wed.
In the book, being serialised in the Mail On Sunday, the author details a tense showdown where Harry and Meghan met with William and Kate with William accusing his sister-in-law of being ‘rude’ after talking about Kate’s hormones after the birth of Prince Louis, which led Meghan to bite back: “Take your finger out of my face.”
In his own memoir Spare, Harry also recounts several times that his wife seemed at loggerheads with his sister-in-law Kate in the early days of their romance. He says the two women had a row over bridesmaid dresses in the lead-up to his wedding that left Meghan in tears and that Kate “grimaced” when the duchess borrowed her lipgloss.
He also details the clear-the-air chat, shortly after the Sussexes’ honeymoon in 2018 as mentioned in this new extract and writes that Kate’s fingers went white when he and Meghan were invited over for tea.
He recalls how both couples aired their grievances including Kate, who asked for an apology from Meghan as she gripped a leather sofa so tightly her “fingers were white”. According to Spare, Kate wanted Meghan to say sorry for making a remark about her hormones and having “baby brain” while she was pregnant.
The book then recounts how Meghan apologised and explained that is how she speaks to her friends. But the encounter took a turn when Harry claims William “pointed a finger at Meg”, then allegedly blasted: “Well, it’s rude, Meghan. These things are not done here.” To which Meghan responded: “If you don’t mind, keep your finger out of my face.”
However, both sides apologised to each other and hugged before ending the meeting – although it may have been a sign of things to come. William and Harry have been at odds for several years now but the divide has widened following the death of the late Queen after the accusations Harry publicly levelled at his brother in double tell-alls: his memoir, Spare, and his Netflix documentary.
In the Netflix docuseries, Harry accused his brother of leaving him “terrified” when he began “screaming and shouting” at him during the infamous Sandringham Summit. While in Spare, Harry claims that a physical confrontation took place between him and William at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace in 2019.
On recent trips back to the UK, Harry has not met with his brother and they did not sit together at the Coronation. And according to Mr Jobson’s new book, when it comes to Harry as far as William is concerned “there is no way back”.
