Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has openly acknowledged that his divorce from Melinda French Gates is his “biggest regret.” 

However, the tech mogul has also emphasized that he has moved forward and is in a much better place today, focusing on his personal and professional life. 

In an interview with NBC’s *TODAY* show, Gates reflected on his career, family, and the aftermath of his divorce. 

While he described his career as “incredibly phenomenal” and expressed pride in his three children, 

he admitted that the end of his marriage to Melinda was a difficult experience. 

When asked about his previous comments to *The Times of London*, where he stated his divorce was “the mistake I most regret,” Gates was candid.

Despite the pain of the separation, Gates pointed out that he had no reason to complain about his life. “My business career, although there’s been some ups and downs, has been incredibly phenomenal, my kids are phenomenal, so it’s even hard for me to say, you know, complain about things,” he explained. He acknowledged that while the divorce was a challenging chapter, he was now in a good place.

The Gates’ split, which made headlines in 2021 after 27 years of marriage, was one of the most talked-about celebrity divorces of the decade. Since then, both Bill and Melinda have continued their work and philanthropic endeavors independently. However, in a sign of the healing process, Bill Gates expressed that he had moved on and that Melinda was doing well too.

“I moved past the divorce,” Gates said during his *TODAY* show interview. “And Melinda’s doing well. I got a lot of work that I love to do, so I’m not really complaining about anything.” This statement indicated that while the divorce was difficult, Gates has found peace in his life post-split.

Reflecting on the years he spent with Melinda, Gates also highlighted the positive aspects of their relationship, especially their three children and the meaningful work they did together. “The divorce wasn’t great. Having those three kids, the work we were able to do together — even if I knew that it wouldn’t last forever, I would still do it again,” he admitted. His gratitude for the time they spent together showed that, despite the end of their marriage, Gates still valued the shared experiences and accomplishments with his ex-wife.

Gates, 69, also shared details about his current relationship with Paula Hurd, a philanthropist and businesswoman who was previously married to Oracle CEO Mark Hurd, who passed away in 2019. Bill and Paula have been spotted together at various events, including sporting games and the 2024 Olympics. The couple’s public appearances have become more frequent, and Gates expressed how happy he is to be in a serious relationship again.

“We’re having fun, going to the Olympics and lots of great things,” Gates said, clearly enjoying his time with Hurd. He described their time together as fulfilling, indicating that they share similar values and interests. Gates also expressed how lucky he felt to have found love again after his divorce.

In his memoir, *Source Code: My Beginnings*, Gates even gave a shoutout to Paula Hurd, acknowledging her feedback during the writing process. “Early readers of the manuscript included Paula Hurd, Marc St. John, and Sheila Gulati. The close read from dear and trusted friends provided much-needed thoughtful and insightful feedback at critical stages in the writing,” he wrote. This mention further underscored the depth of their connection and the importance of Hurd in his life.

Since the divorce, Bill Gates seems to have found peace and happiness both in his personal and professional life. He continues to be an influential figure in the tech industry and philanthropy while enjoying his new relationship.
