Bill Gates is opening up about his personal life, expressing how grateful he feels for his current relationship with Paula Hurd.
During a recent appearance on the *Today* show, the 69-year-old Microsoft co-founder shared the joy he feels in his romance with Hurd, calling her his “serious girlfriend.”
Gates described their relationship as one full of fun, mentioning their shared experiences, including trips to the Olympics, and stated, “We’re having fun.”
The couple first sparked rumors in 2022, but it wasn’t until 2023 that Gates confirmed their romance.
Paula Hurd was previously married to Oracle CEO Mark Hurd, who passed away in October 2019 after battling cancer.
Gates, who had been linked to Hurd after their respective divorces, has now publicly shared his feelings for her, marking a new chapter in his personal life.
This relationship comes nearly three years after Gates’ divorce from his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates. The couple, who had been married since 1994, share three children: Jennifer (28), Rory (25), and Phoebe (22). Their separation, which became final in 2021, was clouded by allegations that Gates had engaged in extramarital affairs, something that added to the difficulties surrounding their split.
Earlier this year, Gates reflected on his divorce, calling it “the mistake I most regret.” In a conversation with *The Times of London*, he admitted that the end of his marriage was deeply painful, saying, “There are others but none that matter. The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years.”
Despite the difficult breakup, Gates shared that he doesn’t regret the relationship itself, especially because of the three children they raised together. During his *Today* show interview, he told Savannah Guthrie, “Despite the fact that the divorce wasn’t great, having those three kids, the work we were able to do together — even if I knew that it [wouldn’t] last forever, I would still do it again.” Gates added that he has since “moved past the divorce” and assured viewers that Melinda is also “doing well.”
Reflecting on his own life after the split, Gates acknowledged that although his business career had seen both highs and lows, he has been able to maintain a deep sense of satisfaction. “My business career, though, there’s been some ups and downs, has been incredibly phenomenal. My kids are phenomenal. So it’s even hard for me to complain about things,” Gates said. “I’ve got a lot of work that I love to do. So I’m not really complaining about anything.”
Melinda French Gates, in a *TIME* interview published in June 2024, shared her side of the divorce, revealing that she had separated from Gates before fully deciding to move forward with the divorce. She explained, “You know, I separated first before I made the full decision about a divorce.” Melinda also emphasized the importance of handling the separation privately, as she was still focused on caring for their children and managing the logistics of untangling their lives together.
While Bill Gates has certainly faced his share of personal challenges, he seems to be in a positive place as he enters this new phase of his life. With a fulfilling career, healthy relationships, and an outlook on life that values the importance of family, Gates appears ready to embrace whatever the future holds, with his new girlfriend, Paula Hurd, by his side.
This public acknowledgment of their relationship marks a milestone in Gates’ life, and it’s clear that, while his past has had its difficulties, he remains focused on what brings him happiness today.
