“It hasn’t been the easiest summer for him either,” a source tells PEOPLE
Ben Affleck is spending significant time working this summer, as rumors continue to swirl regarding his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
A source tells PEOPLE that Affleck, 51, has not moved into his new Los Angeles home and is still living in the Brentwood rental where he was staying in May, when reports first mentioned his separation from Lopez, 55.
“Ben’s doing well. He thrives when he’s busy and he’s been working nonstop,” the source says. “The kids are still off from school. He spends a lot of time with them, too.”
Affleck and Lopez’s marriage has been the subject of significant public scrutiny since May, though the pair put on a united front at his daughter Violet’s high school graduation that same month.
The couple, married in 2022, have spent much of the summer apart. Lopez canceled her tour and has spent the past two months vacationing in Europe and the Hamptons.
Lopez recently returned to L.A. and began searching for a new home after they listed the Beverly Hills mansion they purchased together in May 2023.
“It hasn’t been the easiest summer for him either,” the source adds. “He’s just trying to stay focused and make every day as good as possible.”
Affleck shares his kids Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex Jennifer Garner, while Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Maximilian “Max” David Muniz and Emme Maribel Muniz with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
The actor and Academy Award-winning filmmaker has kept busy in recent months by filming a sequel to his 2016 action thriller The Accountant. He also has a number of other projects in the works as a writer, director and producer, including two movies he and Matt Damon produced that feature Lopez as an actor: Unstoppable and Kiss of the Spider-Woman.
Amazon MGM Studios released first look images at Unstoppable on Thursday, Aug. 8. The biopic follows wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and won a NCAA national championship in 2011. Lopez portrays the wrestler’s mother, Judy, in the film.
