Good Morning Britain viewers have questioned whether Ed Balls can remain impartial now that his wife is Home Secretary.
The former Labour politician is a regular on the ITV breakfast show alongside Susanna Reid, and the two presenters appeared outside Westminster on Monday morning’s broadcast.
They were discussing the handover in power as new Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer has set to work appointing his cabinet after Labour won the General Election.
Ed’s wife Yvette Cooper has been appointed Home Secretary, with some GMB viewers wondering whether or not he should be allowed to stay on the show.
X user @middlema7 wrote: ‘Seems inappropriate that Ed Balls is still presenting on @GMB now that his wife is Home Secretary. Surely they should at least try to have some impartiality on the show?’
And @MikeSalmon1402 asked: ‘Is Ed going to continue to be able to broadcast and remain impartial to this govt, now that his wife is a Labour minister?’

‘Ed Balls in the morning will he take the new government to task considering his wife is Home Secretary,’ pondered another viewer, with a fourth adding: ‘Just a question … but how can Ed Balls still present GMB … I thought the presenters should not be biased to any party!!’
Several people admitted they weren’t fans of Ed’s anyway, while also questioning his position on GMB.
Viewer @TracyGreaves wrote: ‘Not only is Ed Balls a rubbish presenter, his wife is now Home Secretary. Surely this is a conflict of interest?’

While @celticbro added: ‘Should Ed Balls not be excluded from interviewing members of a government that includes his wife? I know impartiality is regarded as a thing of the past but this is just blatant bias.’
However, others pointed out the awkwardness of seeing Ed criticise the new government regardless of his private life.
At the beginning of the broadcast, Susanna asked Ed if being back at Westminster brought back any memories.
‘The first memory it brings back for me is two years ago standing here with you on this green the day Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister,’ he recalled.
