Alex Jones’s attitude after co-star Jermaine Jenas is fired by the BBC: ‘I’m relieved that I no longer have to endure his ‘filthy’ words every time we host the show together!’

Alex Jones is the longest serving presenter on The One Show having joined the BBC show over a decade ago.

Alex Jones opened up about her future on BBC’s The One Show before it was announced her co-presenter Jermaine Jenas had been axed from the lineup, amid claims of “inappropriate behaviour”.

The BBC confirmed to Express Online on Thursday that Jenas is “no longer part of our presenting line-up”.

In a recent interview, Alex, 47, admitted she’s the “main breadwinner,” and wants to continue to provide security for her three children.

The Welsh-born presenter said she is most happy at home with her husband of nine years Charlie Thomson and their three children Teddy, seven, Kit, five, and Annie, three.

Addressing her 14 years on The One Show, she gushed: “I can’t even believe I’m still there. I just go in, do the job and hope no one notices I’m still there.”

The presenter revealed people often ask, ‘what do you plan to do next?’ and whether she plans to host another big entertainment show, but the BBC star admitted she is happy where she is.

“All the extra bits are really fun and exciting but actually for me longevity is key,” she told Bella magazine. “I want to be there.”

She added: “I love the job, I get to interview brilliant people – some nightmares [but] mostly lovely people! And I just really enjoy it. I still feel really happy to go in every day. That’s not to be overlooked.”

Her comments came before it was announced her co-star and former footballer Jermaine would no longer be fronting The One Show.

He has since addressed his dismissal saying, “As you can probably see, I’m not happy about it.”

“There’s two sides to every story,” he added but declined to go into any further detail when probed on the allegations.

According to reports Jermaine’s firing took place swiftly with his co-star on The One Show reportedly unaware of the scandal, as were his presenting colleagues Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker.

Meanwhile, the BBC programme returned on Thursday evening with Alex taking the reins alongside her co-star Clara Amfo.

Viewers reacted after the presenters made no mention of their former

One person commented: “They should at least mention there’s someone missing and won’t be seen again #TheOneShow.”

Another agreed: “#TheOneShow so they never addressed anything.”

Unsolicited communications with a female member of staff of The One Show over text sparked the investigation, but Jenas has now hit back at the allegations.

His spokesperson said: “Right now I can’t talk about it. I can tell you I’m not happy – there are two sides to every story – and I’m going to be speaking with my lawyers on the issue.”
