Al Roker says he knows who’s next to leave TODAY and issues a warning: “To be honest, I didn’t cry throughout all of this, throughout this challenge.”

Al Roker has long been known as a steady and reassuring presence on Today, and once

again, he proved why he’s often the voice of reason among his colleagues. On a recent episode of the morning show, the veteran weatherman, who has been a fixture on NBC for decades, offered some timely advice to one of his co-hosts, ensuring she was prepared for

an upcoming trip. His guidance, which was both practical and delivered with his signature warmth, was a reminder of the close bond he shares with his fellow anchors.

At 70 years old, Roker continues to be an integral part of Today, particularly on its Third Hour, where he regularly appears alongside co-hosts Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer. During a recent broadcast, he took a moment to give Dreyer some words of wisdom before her planned flight out of New York City. Always one to blend humor with sage advice, Roker’s warning was perfectly timed, showcasing not only his experience but also the camaraderie that exists among the show’s cast.

While Today is a professional workplace, it has also become much more than that for its co-anchors. Over the years, they have developed relationships that extend well beyond the cameras, forming what many of them describe as a second family. This sense of unity has been especially evident during times of hardship, and Roker himself has been the recipient of this unwavering support.

In a heartfelt interview with HELLO! last year, Roker reflected on how much his colleagues meant to him, particularly during a difficult period in late 2022 when he faced serious health issues. His medical scare led to an extended hospitalization and an absence from the show, but during that time, his Today family rallied around him in a way that deeply moved him. He recalled how his co-anchors, including Savannah Guthrie and then-co-host Hoda Kotb, went out of their way to show their love and support. One of the most touching moments came when they surprised him by singing Christmas carols outside his home, an emotional gesture that left him overwhelmed with gratitude.

“To be honest, I hadn’t cried during the whole ordeal,” Roker admitted in the interview. “But that brought me to tears.” The kindness shown by his colleagues, along with the outpouring of well wishes from viewers and fans, was something he would never forget. He described it as a “physical manifestation” of the support he felt from so many people, adding that knowing others were thinking of him and praying for his recovery meant the world to him.

In addition to reflecting on his own experiences, Roker also shared his thoughts on the changes that have taken place at Today, particularly the departure of longtime co-host Hoda Kotb earlier this year. While he acknowledged that such transitions can be difficult, he remained optimistic about the show’s future. “The great thing about the Today Show is that the sum is greater than its equal parts,” he remarked. He went on to praise the many talented colleagues who have stepped in to fill Kotb’s role, including Craig Melvin, Laura Jarrett, Willie Geist, and Sheinelle Jones, emphasizing that the program continues to thrive regardless of who is in front of the camera.

With over seven decades on the air, Today has seen its fair share of changes, but Roker firmly believes in its ability to evolve. “No matter what happens, we’re going to be in great shape,” he stated confidently. He described the show as an ever-changing entity, built to adapt with time. “Each one of us is very fortunate to be in this position for however long we have, and then we pass the baton off to somebody else.” His words reflected a deep appreciation for the legacy of the show and a belief that it will remain strong for years to come.

Roker also expressed his understanding and support for Kotb’s decision to leave, particularly given her desire to spend more time with her two young daughters. As a grandfather himself, he could relate to the importance of family time. “I’m just head over heels over my granddaughter,” he shared, adding that his own children are now grown and independent. Because of that, he has had the opportunity to focus on his career for many years. Kotb, on the other hand, is in a different stage of life, raising young children who need her presence. “She wants to spend that time with them, and I completely get it,” he said, making it clear that he respects her decision.

However, Roker was also quick to reassure fans that Kotb would always remain a part of the Today family. “She’s not leaving the family,” he emphasized, making it clear that their bond extends beyond the workplace. Ultimately, his perspective was one of positivity and gratitude, celebrating both the personal and professional relationships that have shaped his career.

Through all the ups and downs, Roker remains a steadfast presence on Today, bringing wisdom, humor, and warmth to the show every morning. Whether he’s offering travel advice to a co-host, reflecting on his own challenges, or celebrating the resilience of the Today team, he continues to be a beloved figure in the world of morning television. His ability to balance professionalism with genuine emotion is what has endeared him to audiences for so many years—and it’s clear that his impact on the show is as strong as ever.
