Katy Perry debuted a daring new look in Paris this week, exposing her midriff in a braless look, but not everyone is loving her bold new fashion sense.
The singer turned heads at Balenciaga’s Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show during Paris Fashion Week, wearing a long black velvet coat that left her torso bare, showcasing her abs.
It’s certainly one of the most eye-catching outfits Katy has worn and drew comparisons to Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori and her half-naked looks.
Katy, 39, shared a photo of her look to Instagram with the caption ‘@balenciaga baby’, but it sparked a debate about whether her sense of style is appropriate.
Joining the backlash, @wgentry770 wrote: ‘She’s totally gone in the wrong direction! What has happened to our Katy??’
Avir_riva felt particularly impassioned about Katy’s racy look and weighed in: ‘Oh Katy… we love your music and YOU ARE a talented successful pop star so there’s no need to strut around half naked to promote & sell your music!
‘This just screams desperation and attention-seeking and above all there’s no need to support a [c**p] designer like Balenciaga! My 15 year old daughter and myself are both big fans…. Sooo this is so disappointing!’
Sharing their thoughts, Meganlovescraftsanddisney said: ‘A fan doesn’t have to agree with everything but this is disappointing.’
Gingerthebengalcat added: ‘I guess Katy’s new look is going half naked. She’s a little long in the tooth for that. yes. She is a beautiful woman, but she doesn’t need to keep dressing so provocatively to have her upcoming album be a success. This just screams desperation. Sorry. Not sorry.’
Comparing her to Kanye’s wife Bianca, who is frequently seen out in public wearing little clothing, @Kalidemario questioned: ‘What in the Kanye & Bianca is going on here.’
‘She going through her Miley age,’ Chelseannn claimed.
Renee_____f: ‘Call me old fashioned, but there is so much bare skin (nakedness) these days. It’s great to be body proud but covering up is classy and feminine. I just can’t agree with Katys attire (or lack of) here.’
However, @sarah_joan was more than happy to rush to Katy’s defence and said: ‘Cats don’t bother themselves with the choices women make with their own bodies.’
Also firing back, @Missatomiccribs agreed: ‘News flash sweetie, no one has to live their life based on ANYONE’s opinions. You certainly wouldn’t.’
‘Why can’t a woman wherever she wants? Why do you think it’s about her album at all?’ @Philipfwinn wrote.
It’s just one of many eye-catching looks the star has worn this week as she prepares for the release of her brand-new single, Woman’s World.
Elsewhere, she left little to the imagination as she appeared at Vogue World’s show held on the Place Vendôme under the famous bronze column across from France’s Ministry of Justice.
The former American Idol judge surprised attendees as she appeared on the runway in a carefully constructed Noir Kei Ninomiya archival gown, which featured a statement skirt complete with pink flowers.
Understood to be completely free of underwear, the top half of the dress proved to be the boldest of all as it was made up of barely-there cut-outs that only just covered the singer’s modesty.
Earlier in the week, the singer arrived at the Ritz hotel in a red velvet one-shouldered Balenciaga gown featuring a very lengthy train.
While the length of the dress was impressive on its own, the message written on the train captivated fans, as it featured an easter egg related to her upcoming single.
White words were printed on the dress with excited fans quickly taking to X where they debunked that they were lyrics for the soon-to-be-released single.
‘Pop music is back, thank u Katy Perry’, @joshhudsonkat3 wrote. While @borisestebanbe added, ‘A marketing genius and a pop music genius.’
@likeathornrose wrote, ‘this is so iconic we will be talking about it for years’.
The star announced last week she is releasing new music, confirming to fans that her first single will be available to stream on July 11.
While details of her forthcoming sixth album have been kept mostly under wraps, it has been reported that controversial producer Dr Luke, 50, is attached to the project.
An exclusive report from Rolling Stone named some of Katy’s collaborators on the new project, and many fans were shocked and appalled to see the controversial music producer and songwriter’s name among them.
Responsible for dozens of massive hits over the past couple of decades, Dr Luke’s name became most notorious for the allegations made against him by pop superstar Kesha, who accused him of years of sexual and emotional abuse.
Katy has not responded to the criticism. However, some fans claim that even if she wanted to part ways with Dr. Luke, she may be contractually obligated to work with the producer for another three albums after signing with him in 2007.
Exact details of Katy’s contract with Dr Luke remain unclear. Fans have speculated that when she signed with the producer, she agreed to releasing six albums.
@lgndrylover posted on X: ‘Until 2023, Katy had only released 3 albums from the 6 she signed with Luke in 2007
One Of The Boys (2008)
Teenage Dream (2010)
PRISM (2013)
After the lawsuit with Kesha finished, Katy still owns him three more albums from when she signed with him at 22 years old.’
