Kevin Bacon has revealed he once hired a make-up artist to disguise him in public – but he hated not being recognized.
The Footloose star, 65, a Hollywood icon for 40 years, expressed a desire to experience life as an ordinary person but soon found he missed the special attention from fans.
He told Vanity Fair : ‘I’m not complaining, but I have a face that’s pretty recognizable. Putting my hat and glasses on is only going to work to a certain extent.
‘I went to a special effects makeup artist, had consultations, and asked him to make me a prosthetic disguise’ before testing his new disguise at Los Angeles mall, The Grove.
The star, worth $45 million, said, “No one recognized me. People were rude, pushing past me. No one said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line for coffee. I thought, ‘This sucks. I want to go back to being famous.’”
The star is no stranger to a shock transformation.
In 2000 sci-fi thriller Hollow Man, the star sported eerie prosthetics to play Sebastian Caine, a scientist who volunteers to be the first human test subject for a serum that renders the user invisible – but goes on a killing spree instead.
Kevin has a starring role in MaXXXine as private investigator John Labat.
MaXXXine is scheduled to be released in US theaters by A24 on July 5.
MaXXXine follows Maxine after she survived the 1979 massacre in Texas as she continues to pursue her dream of becoming a famous actress, while also evading the Night Stalker in 1985 in Los Angeles.
The slasher film is the third installment in the X film series based on original characters created by Ti and starring British actress Mia, 30.
MaXXXine is a direct sequel to the 2022 film X in which Mia had dual roles as Maxine Minx and Pearl in the film set in 1979.
Mia reprised her role of Pearl in the 2022 psychological horror film Pearl that she also co-wrote with director Ti.
The Footloose actor met his wife Kyra Sedgwick on the set of 1988’s Lemon Sky. The film was based on the 1968 play by the same name.
After a nine month engagement, the couple tied the knot on September 4, 1988.
The successful Hollywood pair share daughter Sosie, 31, and son Travis, 34.
Kevin Bacon may be a Hollywood icon, but even he sometimes wishes for a taste of anonymity. The star, known for his roles in iconic films such as Footloose, once hired a make-up artist to create a prosthetic disguise so he could experience life as an ordinary person. However, Bacon quickly realized that being unrecognized came with its own set of challenges.
Despite his efforts to blend in, Bacon found that people were rude and inconsiderate when they didn’t recognize him. He missed the special attention and love from fans that he had grown accustomed to. The experience left him feeling frustrated and eager to return to his life in the spotlight.
Although Bacon is no stranger to dramatic transformations onscreen, such as in the sci-fi thriller Hollow Man, he learned that playing a character in real life was not as satisfying as he had imagined. The actor’s upcoming role in MaXXXine promises to bring more excitement and thrills to audiences as he portrays private investigator John Labat.
Bacon’s personal life has also been a source of happiness and fulfillment for the star. He met his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, on the set of Lemon Sky in 1988, and the couple has been inseparable ever since. Their enduring love story is a testament to the power of true connection and partnership.
As Bacon continues to captivate audiences with his talent and charisma, fans can look forward to seeing more of him on the big screen. Stay tuned for the latest updates on Bacon’s projects and appearances.
