Vanderpump Rules alum Brittany Cartwright has filed for divorce from husband Jax Taylor, In Touch can confirm.
The reality TV personality, 35, submitted divorce paperwork with the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 27, according to court documents obtained by In Touch.
She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and listed their date of separation as January 24.
Brittany and Jax, 45, share one minor child together, a son named Cruz. The Valley star requested sole legal and physical custody of Cruz, 3, with her estranged husband receiving visitation rights.
Brittany also asked the court to terminate both parties’ rights to spousal support.
The divorce filing comes after the estranged spouses, who tied the knot in June 2019 after four years of dating, confirmed their separation in February.
“Many of you guys have been asking me about Jax and I and our relationship,” Brittany said on the February 29 episode of their “When Reality Hits” podcast. ”I just think it’s important to be real and honest with you guys because we’ve shared so much of our lives with you guys.”
The mom of one continued, “On my last podcast I alluded to, ‘Many marriages go through rocky times’. Yes, marriages in general are very hard and I’ve had a particularly rough year this past year. Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.”
However, hours after news of their separation broke, Jax revealed in an interview with Page Six that Brittany was “back” in their home.
“We’re together. We’re living in our home right now,” he said. “She was in a house for a while, but yeah, she’s back now.”
The Bravolebrity admitted that their split was “fresh and new” and said they would “figure it out,” but it was “not divorce” yet. He was not wearing his wedding ring during the interview.
“It’s not evil or nastiness,” Jax continued. “It’s just two people that you now are hitting a 10-year mark in their marriage. We’re just spending some time apart and just trying to re-assess, you know, our situation. We have a child involved and we just wanna do what’s best for our kid.”
Rumors swirled that Jax had cheated on Brittany again after doing so in the past, but she later denied that infidelity led to their split.
“The truth is that we have just been fighting and not on the same page for a while now,” she told E! News on March 19. “It was just becoming a negative space in our own house and I just don’t want that for our son. … Jax did not cheat on me. But we got into a very bad fight and I decided to pack up my stuff, and I’ve been staying at an Airbnb since January 24.”
In late July, Jax entered an in-patient facility seeking mental health treatment, a rep for The Valley star confirmed in a statement shared via People.
“Jax has always been candid about his mental health struggles, especially during the past few months on his podcast,” the statement read. “He has made the decision to seek in-patient treatment. This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family. They ask for privacy and respect until he is ready to speak more on this matter.”
A rep for the show later confirmed on August 20 that the Michigan native was leaving treatment.
“Jax has spent the last 30 days in treatment and will be heading back home later this week,” a statement to People read. “It’s been an emotional month for him and he’s most looking forward to spending time with his son.”
