Alison Hammond has opened up about her past financial struggles despite being a familiar face on television. The This Morning presenter, who has also graced our screens with shows like the Great British Bake Off and For The Love Of Dogs, has spoken candidly about a time when her career wasn’t as stable.
Back in 2007, even though she was a household name, Alison, 49, faced a period where work was scarce. In an interview with The Guardian, she revealed how there was a point when she couldn’t make her mortgage payments despite being “really famous” at the time.

As a result, to make ends meet Alison took a job at a local hair salon and pretender to simply be helping out if clients recognised her. “I’d answer the phone, do a few blow dries,” she recalled.
During this tough time, her young son Aiden was at home, and her mother provided them with financial support. As she reflected on those challenging days, Alison became emotional and shed tears. “It’s not all good all of the time. But I was all right, you know? That’s television, it’s fickle and it’s part of my journey, part of my power”, she said, the Mirror reports.
Last year, Alison joined the team of the Great British Bake Off, stepping in for comedian Matt Lucas who left to pursue other opportunities. Her genuine enjoyment of the baked treats has endeared her even more to the show’s audience.

Alison has candidly voiced concerns that she might not be asked to return to a certain show next year. “That’s OK. I know I’ll be OK, because I’ve been OK before. I’ll go and work at Tesco and people will still love me,” she explained.
The interview comes after the TV personality left This Morning viewers gobsmacked when she revealed last month that she’d be taking a break from presenting duties. “It’s quite sad that tomorrow is going to be our last show for some time,” said co-host Dermot O’Leary.

Confirming her upcoming break, Alison responded: “I know, I know, my last day. I’m going on holiday bubs, it’s time.” She also joked, “Alison needs a break”, prompting Dermot to respond with a light-hearted remark. “We all need a break,” he said.
In response to the revelation, viewers took to X to comment on the sad announcement. “Is Alison leaving for good?,” asked one. “It’s Alison’s last day on #ThisMorning before she goes on a break!,” another added.
