After filming the pilot episode in Vancouver, the upcoming NBC series Suits: LA will film in a more fitting home: Los Angeles.
Production is about to begin on the highly-anticipated spin-off of the USA Network series Suits, which followed two high-powered New York City lawyers (Gabriel Macht and Patrick Adams).
NBC issued a series order for Suits: L.A. last month, which stars Stephen Amell as lawyer Ted Black, a former New York lawyer who has reinvented himself in Los Angeles.
Production is about to get under way in Los Angeles, according to Variety, though there is no indication when it may debut on the network.
The series will be set in the same universe as the original Suits, though it will feature all new characters and stories.
Still it may be possible for former Suits stars to put in a cameo appearance here and there, though nothing is confirmed yet.
The series follows Black, who now finds himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles.
‘His firm is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career,’ the series description reads.
‘Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives,’ the description concludes.
The show also stars Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane, who co-founded the L.A. firm and is described as, ‘powerful and self-absorbed.’
The cast also includes Lex Scott Davis as, ‘savvy and strong lawyer Erica Rollins’ and Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen, who is both Ted’s protege and Erica’s rival.
Rob Nagle and Troy Winbush also star in unspecified roles in the series, though it’s unclear if more roles will be cast in the future.
Original Suits creator Aaron Korsh also created Suits: L.A. and will executive produce with Doug Liman, Dave Bartis and Gene Klein.
Victoria Mahoney directed the pilot episode and will also serve as an executive producer on the series.
The original Suits ran for eight seasons between 2011 and 2019 and also starred Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and Gina Torres.
While the show was a hit on the USA Network, it reached new heights when it debuted on Netflix in 2023.
The series exploded in popularity, topping the Nielsen streaming charts for a record 12 weeks in a row with over 55 billion viewer minutes in 2023 alone.
