King Charles and Prince William may well attend the Invictus Games when it comes to Birmingham in 2027, in a surprising show of support for the estranged Prince Harry.

It was recently announced that the West Midlands city will host the sporting tournament in three years’ time.

The first time the UK has hosted since the 2014 inaugural Games in London.

Invictus was founded by Harry in partnership with Sir Keith Mills and the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Princess Kate).

Making a royal visit a possibility.

Speaking to Slingo, former royal butler Grant Harrold explained that Harry may be looking to spend more time in the UK over the next few months and years.

He said: “To come back to his home to see the Games here will therefore mean a lot to him. Members of the family will also definitely support him with this. 

As it is in the UK, it will be nice to think his father and brother will attend, and it is certainly possible that they will.”

In spite of the rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family, Mr Harrold believes Harry is still proud to be British and may be feeling homesick.

He elaborated: “I think Harry will be looking to increase his time in the UK. I heard he may be looking for a house too, which doesn’t surprise me. His whole life was based in the UK for so many years, and to get up and walk away from that is simply impossible. There may be a part within him that may resent that he has gone away and given up his home.

“He’ll also know what’s been going on with his father, his sister in law and also his friends. Part of him is probably saying because of these, he will need to keep his contacts in the UK.”

Harry and Meghan were gifted Frogmore Cottage for them to live in after they married in May 2018, and were still able to use it even after they stepped down as working royals.

However last year the King asked them to vacate the property, leaving Harry with nowhere to stay while in the UK and leading him to resort to hotels.

Meghan Markle may be less keen to come back to the UK, as it has not yet been confirmed whether she will accompany her husband back here or not.

The Duchess has not been back to Britain since September 2022, but former royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes Invictus could be the perfect opportunity for the Firm to patch things up.

She told OK! magazine: “An awful lot can happen in three years. An Invictus Games without Harry is unthinkable and I am sure he will be there.

“But it would be extremely telling if his wife decided not to attend the games in Birmingham…. especially as it will be exactly ten years since she was introduced to the world as Harry’s girlfriend at the Toronto Games.

“You would think that this would be the perfect opportunity for the whole family to forgive, if not forget, the rift and hurt of recent years.”
