Loose Women presenter Ruth Langsford was called out by viewers of the ITV show who accused her of making a ‘disrespectful’ comment about her husband Eamonn Holmes
A comment by Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford during Tuesday’s has been perceived by viewers as a subtle slight towards her hubby, Eamonn Holmes.
The panel were chatting about the emotional impact of gifts from loved ones when Ruth remarked, “I think any gift from a friend is a special gift, anything that a friend gives you.
“When someone says friendship bracelet I don’t think of a beautiful silver bracelet, I think of a bit of cotton that a kid has made for you.
“I don’t have grandchildren, I hope I will one day, but I can imagine that. If a grandchild or something has made me something I would feel the need to wear it.”
Eagle-eyed fans were swift to point out that Ruth actually does have step-grandchildren through Eamonna fact which seemingly slipped her mind on air, reports the Mirror.
One fan pointedly tweeted “#Loosewomen I thought you had a granddaughter Ruth.”
This sparked debate among Twitter users, with one replying, “They’re Eamonn’s grandkids. I bet she doesn’t see them now.”
Another viewer expressed surprise, posting: “In the 14 years Eamon and Ruth were together, Her stepson Declan had two children. She would have known them… Her step-grandchildren. Now, she says she has no grandchildren. Ouch.”
Someone else agreed, adding their voice: “Exactly, I thought that was a bit disrespectful of her to say that.”
A comment came from another observed: “Ruth saying she doesn’t have grandchildren when she has step-grandkids on Eamonn’s side, I thought that was a bit mean.”
Earlier this year, television favourites Eamonn and Ruth made the revelation that their 14-year union has come to an end.
The duo, who first crossed paths in 1997 and tied the knot in 2010, has a son Jack together, while Eamonn is also a father and grandfather from a previous relationship.
Ruth has remained tight-lipped about the split so far, yet Eamonn touched upon the subject during a GB News segment with co-host Isabel Webster.
Commenting on the situation, he expressed gratitude saying: “Just before we move on we’d just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.”
Following a brief hiatus, Ruth recently graced the Loose Women panel once more, sparking a warm interruption from colleague Coleen Nolan who exclaimed: “Wait, wait, wait, before you carry on, can I just say I am so so happy you’re back.”
