Sam Thompson has opened up about his girlfriend Zara McDermott after weeks of speculation about their relationship.
After the couple were dogged by split rumours after a series of teary rows.
Zara found herself dragged into the spotlight yet again this weekend – this time for allegations made against her dance partner Graziano Di Prima.
The Italian has been accused of ‘hitting and kicking’ the reality star, with the dancer vowing to clear his name.
Following a tense few days, Sam has now spoken out to tell his girlfriend he is “so proud” of her.
In a heartbreaking statement, the Love Islander, 27, said she was “too scared” to speak about the alleged mistreatment she suffered.
While partnered with Graziano on the show last year following the news the dancer, 30, had been sacked from this year’s series.
I’m A Celebrity winner, Sam, 31, came to watch Zara several times on Strictly and now he’s taken to Instagram, supporting her again. After weeks of uncertainty surrounding his relationship with the documentary maker, with many fearing they were heading for a breakup, Sam shared an advert of his “missus” modelling for Look Fantastic on the London Underground.
Captioning the snap, in which Zara beams flogging a bottle of shampoo, he wrote: “So proud of you goose @zaramcdermott,” followed by a love heart and a crying emoji.” Sam then told a commuter in his video, that Zara was his “girl” and his “missus” adding in the caption: “Explaining to the bloke I know her and I’m not weird,” followed by a laughing emoji.
The post will come as good news for the couple’s legion of loyal fans, who have been concerned for the pair, who have been plagued with rumours that they were splitting up after a string of rows after Zara was seen in public in floods of tears. Sam also appeared to be crying at the recent TRIC Awards, however he denied any tears, telling his pal Pete on their podcast he’d just been given some “bad news”.
Since news broke of Graziano’s alleged mistreatment of Zara, prompting the Sicilian to take to Instagram saying he ‘deeply regretted’ his actions, the Love Island alum, who Sam calls ‘Goose’, has been inundated with support.
Taking to Instagram, earlier this week, she told her fans that, while joining Strictly Come Dancing was a “dream come true”, her time in the training room with the Italian dancer was closer to a nightmare.
She wrote: “So much of my Strictly experience was everything I could have dreamt of. The entire production team and everyone behind the scenes as well as my fellow contestants were so amazing to work with. However, my experience inside the training room was very different. Reports have been made about my treatment on the show and there were witnesses to some events, as well as videos of particular incidents which are incredibly distressing to watch.”
Zara continued: “I have wrestled with the fear of opening up- I was scared about public backlash, I was scared about my future, I was scared of victim shaming. But after a lot of conversations with those I love, I’ve gained the strength to face these fears, and when I was asked to speak to the BBC, I spoke candidly about my time on the show.”
