Patrick Mahomes couldn’t hold back tears as he admitted he was the reason his grandfather ended up in critical condition: “If only things had gone differently that day…”

January 24 was a significant day for the Mahomes family. Patrick Mahomes’ grandfather, Larry ‘Randy’ Martin, was in hospice care due to his declining health.

However, despite his struggles, there was one thing he deeply wished for—to see his grandson play in the Super Bowl.

Randi Mahomes, Patrick’s mother, shared the emotional significance of this with People, saying, “I know that it has meant a lot to him.

And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.”

While Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs did not secure a victory in the big game, he fulfilled his grandfather’s heartfelt wish by taking the field on Super Bowl Sunday.

Just days after watching his grandson play, Larry Martin passed away on February 12.

A Difficult Goodbye for Randi Mahomes

Losing a loved one is never easy, and for Randi Mahomes, her father’s passing was particularly painful. She took to social media to share her grief and honor his memory.

“Hard to find the words of holding my father’s hand as he goes to Heaven,” she wrote in a touching tribute. “I know he’s in a better place. I love you, daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23.”

Her father had lived a life dedicated to helping others. He spent years working as a teacher and counselor, guiding young people and positively impacting lives through his roles at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Gatesville Boys School. His legacy of service left a lasting mark on many who needed support.

Despite her grief, Randi has been focusing on staying strong for her family, particularly her son and her granddaughter, Sterling Skye.

Finding Strength Through Family and Motivation

While Randi has been navigating the pain of losing a parent, she continues to show resilience. One such example was celebrating her granddaughter Sterling’s fourth birthday on February 22. Even though she was mourning, she chose to be present for the joyous occasion, demonstrating the strength that has been a hallmark of her character.

As she works through her grief, Randi has also been leaning into positivity and motivation. On her Instagram Stories, she shared an uplifting message:

“Tomorrow is Monday, and we will have a great week, filled with good vibes, many blessings, and tons of positivity.”

Accompanying the post, she wrote a simple yet powerful two-word message: “Let’s go.”

Later, she followed it up with another post: “Situations will teach you the real meaning of life.”

Her words reflected the emotional journey she has been on, trying to find light even in the darkest moments.

A Painful Pattern: Losing Her Parents After Super Bowls

Tragically, this was not the first time Randi had to endure the loss of a parent shortly after celebrating Patrick’s Super Bowl appearance.

In 2023, her mother, Debbie Bates Martin, passed away on April 5, just two months after the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. The loss was deeply painful for Randi, who expressed her emotions on social media.

“Missing my mom so much it hurts and trying not to cry again in front of my daughter is impossible,” she wrote in the months following her mother’s passing.

Ahead of last year’s Super Bowl, she also posted a tribute to her late mother, writing, “Momma, I know you are cheering today from Heaven. I miss you every single day… I can hear you yelling ‘Go Patrick.’”

Her parents had been married for 53 years, making their passing all the more difficult for Randi and the rest of her family.

Motivational Monday: Randi Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Michael Strahan Share Their Perspectives

As Randi continues to navigate grief, she is turning to motivational messages to keep her spirits up. Interestingly, other sports figures, including Tom Brady and Michael Strahan, also shared their own versions of Monday Motivation on social media.

Tom Brady, now retired from the NFL and working as a broadcaster for FOX, posted his own uplifting message. His approach was much different from Randi’s reflective and emotional post—he shared a relaxing photo of the blue ocean from a yacht, radiating calm and positivity.

Meanwhile, Gracie Hunt, daughter of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, also hopped on the “Happy Monday” trend. She took a different route, posting about fitness motivation while proudly repping the Chiefs in her gym attire.

Michael Strahan, known for his time on the football field and his current role as a television personality, shared his own motivational message. His post read, “Success is not for the chosen few; it’s for the few who choose.”

Strahan’s words served as a reminder to take control of one’s destiny rather than waiting for opportunities to appear. His confident and determined tone contrasted with Randi’s heartfelt tribute but still carried the overarching theme of resilience and moving forward.

Final Thoughts

Randi Mahomes has endured tremendous loss, but she continues to find strength in family, faith, and positivity. As she works through the pain of losing both of her parents within a short period, she remains focused on cherishing her loved ones and embracing the lessons life has to offer.

Whether through heartfelt tributes, motivational messages, or simply showing up for her family, Randi is proving that even in the face of grief, love and resilience can shine through.
