Jamie Laing left the This Morning hosts unsettled when he revealed the shocking reason why his ears CAN’T HEAR properly: “I bet you all do it every day…”

Jamie Laing, best known for his time on Made in Chelsea,

recently spoke about his ongoing battle with tinnitus, a condition that affects millions worldwide.

The 36-year-old reality star appeared on This Morning alongside Dr. Raj Arora to discuss his experience, hoping to raise awareness

and offer advice to those struggling with the condition.

The Moment Jamie Discovered His Tinnitus

During the interview, Jamie recalled the terrifying moment he first realized he had tinnitus. It happened nine years ago when he woke up to a persistent ringing sound.

Initially, he believed the noise was coming from somewhere in his house, but after searching, he made a startling discovery—it was actually inside his ear.

Describing the sound, Jamie compared it to a constant, high-pitched noise similar to a dog whistle. He explained how the condition affects him daily, calling it “debilitating” and noting that, because tinnitus is invisible to others, it can feel like a lonely struggle.

Understanding Tinnitus and Its Impact

Tinnitus is a condition where individuals hear ringing, buzzing, or other sounds in their ears without an external source. While it is not a disease itself, it is often associated with underlying conditions such as hearing loss, anxiety, or exposure to loud noises.

According to research, approximately 7.6 million people in the UK suffer from tinnitus. Although the exact cause is unclear, Jamie speculated that his condition might have been caused by years of exposure to loud music. Reflecting on his younger days, he admitted, “I never protected my ears—I went to a lot of nightclubs.”

Coping with Tinnitus: Jamie’s Advice

Despite the challenges, Jamie has learned ways to manage his tinnitus and shared some valuable advice for others facing the same condition. He emphasized the importance of sound therapy, explaining that listening to white noise, whale sounds, or even the hum of a fan helps him sleep at night.

“I find that if I focus on it, the sound gets worse,” he said. “So, I try to drown it out with background noise.”

Medical experts also recommend other strategies, such as relaxation techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and limiting caffeine and alcohol intake, which can sometimes exacerbate symptoms.

Tinnitus and Mental Health

During his interview, Jamie also touched on the emotional impact of living with tinnitus. He acknowledged that anxiety and stress can make the ringing worse, creating a frustrating cycle.

“The more tired or anxious I feel, the louder it gets,” he shared. “It’s tough because you can’t escape it—no one else can hear it, but it’s always there.”

This highlights a crucial aspect of tinnitus: its connection to mental health. Studies show that those with tinnitus are more likely to experience anxiety and depression. Jamie’s openness about his struggles serves as a reminder that seeking support—whether through therapy, medical professionals, or online communities—can be beneficial.

Jamie’s Future Plans and Personal Life

Beyond his battle with tinnitus, Jamie also discussed his personal life, including his marriage to Sophie Habboo. The couple, who tied the knot in April 2023, have openly spoken about their plans for the future. However, Jamie admitted that he has fears about having children.

On a recent episode of his Great Company podcast, he revealed, “I would really like to have one, but it’s been a long road because I was really scared of babies and commitment.” He explained that the idea of being responsible for another human being forever feels overwhelming.

Despite his fears, Jamie and Sophie remain open to the possibility of starting a family in the future.

Raising Awareness About Tinnitus

Jamie’s decision to speak publicly about his condition is an important step in raising awareness. Many people with tinnitus suffer in silence, unsure of how to manage the symptoms. By sharing his experience, Jamie is helping to destigmatize the condition and encourage others to seek support.

If you or someone you know is struggling with tinnitus, resources such as the British Tinnitus Association offer support and guidance on coping strategies. Seeking professional advice from an audiologist or doctor can also provide relief and better management techniques.

Final Thoughts

Jamie Laing’s story is a powerful reminder that tinnitus can affect anyone, regardless of age or lifestyle. His openness about the challenges and coping strategies offers hope to those dealing with the condition. By continuing to raise awareness, he is helping to shine a light on an often-overlooked health issue, ensuring that more people have access to the information and support they need.
