Simon Cowell changed the life of many after launching shows such as X Factor but he has now blamed social media for the steady demise of the once successful music industry
Simon Cowell has sensationally hit out at social media as he blames the platforms for the decline of the music industry.
The 64-year-old music mogul, who fostered stars like One Direction and Leona Lewis, laments that aspiring artists are bypassing record labels via social media, impacting the industry..
In a radio interview, he discussed the music industry’s struggle with daily social media uploads and fewer artists achieving global success, crediting Eurovision for launching talents like Sam Ryder.
Desperate to keep his formula alive of finding the next big thing since One Direction, he has now set his sights on creating a new boyband.
But it looks as though he still hopes ID can make a return. He continued: “Those records have really stood the test of time they still really, really sound great. Imagine if they did reform and their tickets went on sale? They would have the biggest ticket sale in history I genuinely believe that. I don’t know whether that’s going to happen or not so I’m going to find the next generation.”
But sadly, earlier this month, his pursuit of another successful boyband in Liverpool did not go as expected. The search is for his new show titled Midas Touch and it’s expected to be aired on Netflix. TV executives expected hoards of people to arrive with the hope of making it big and becoming as successful as Boyzone, Westlife and Take That.
But instead, they were faced with a reported handful of people in Liverpool. According to The Sun, an observer said: “They started arriving slowly from about 9am on Saturday but the biggest number in the queue never amounted to more than about 40. By early afternoon, the number arriving had virtually dried up and it was the same story on the Sunday audition.
The source added: “The amount of railings they put up suggested they were expecting hundreds or thousands of people to arrive and pack out the queues but they had a fraction of those kinds of numbers.” Simon announced that his search would start last week in Newcastle. But it was revealed by The Sun last week that the two dates in the city had been cancelled, citing it was due to the “travel schedule.”
Another two auditions are meant to take place in Dublin later this month and three are expected in London at the beginning of August. Earlier this month, Simon caused a stir during his appearance on Good Morning Britain as viewers couldn’t move past how different he looked.
Fans of the show felt he looked as though he’d had too much work done to his face in a bid to look youthful. One person wrote: “He needs to lay off the botox #gmb.” Another said: “It looks like #simoncowell has seen a ghost with the amount of Botox he’s had on his face #GMB.” Meanwhile a third person said: “WTF has #SimonCowell done to his face!?! @GMB.” And a fourth person said: “@GMB what has Simon Cowell done to his face?!?! #goodmorningbritain.”
